Finished Size
Approx 13cm in height and 11cm in diameter
US crochet terms used throughout
Abbreviations Used:
ch - chain
sc – single crochet
fo – finish off
st – stitch
sts – stitches
slst – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet
dc –double crochet
blo – back loop only
dec – decrease / single crochet 2 together (pull up a loop in the next 2 stitches, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on the hook, counts as 1sc)
inc – increase /single crochet increase (work 2 single crochet stitches into the same stitch)
NOTES:
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, so do not join at the end of each round.
Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round and move it up as you work.
The “ch2” used at the start of the pumpkin can be replaced with the magic ring method if you prefer.
Pumpkin (orange)
Round 1: ch2, in second ch from hook, sc 9 [9]
Round 2: inc in each st around [18]
Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) repeat around [27]
Round 4: (sc in next 2 sts, inc) repeat around [36]
Round 5: (sc in next 3 sts, inc) repeat around [45]
Round 6: (sc in next 4 sts, inc) repeat around [54]
Round 7: (sc in next 5 sts, inc) repeat around [63]
You will notice that the base on the pumpkin is wavy and is not a flat circle, this is exactly the way it should look, so don't be worried. (See photo below)
Round 8-26: sc in each st [63]
Round 27: (sc in next 5 sts, dec) repeat around [54]
Round 28: (sc in next 4 sts, dec) repeat around [45]
Round 29: (sc in next 3 sts, dec) repeat around [36]
Round 30: (sc in next 2 sts, dec) repeat around [27]
Round 31: (sc in the next st, dec) repeat around [18]
Insert the plastic safety eyes between round 19 and 20, approx 7 stitches apart.
Stuff your apple with fibrefill
Round 32: ( dec) repeat around , fo. [9]
Cut the yarn, leaving a very long string. Approximately 2 metres.
Closing and Shaping the Pumpkin
You can follow the written instructions below or watch the video tutorial.
Weave your needle in and out of each stitch in the last round, pull tight, then fasten off to secure. Insert the needle into the centre top of the pumpkin and bring it out through the centre base, insert the needle back through the top and bring it out through the bottom centre. Repeat this again several times, to form the shape of the pumpkin and make the indentation for the stem. Put the needle back through the bottom and through to the top, fasten off to secure, weave in end.
Stitch the mouth between rows 11 and 14 and the nose between rows 16 and 18 , with embroidery cotton.
Stem (green)
Round 1: ch2, in second ch from hook, sc 6 [6]
Round 2: inc in each st around [12]
Round 3: sc blo in each st [12]
Round 4: sc in each st around [12]
Round 5: (sc,sc, dec,dec) repeat around [8]
Round 6: sc in each st around [8]
Round 7: {(sc, hdc,dc) into thenext st, (dc,hdc, sc) into the next st } repeat around [24]
Round 8: (sc,hdc,2dc, ch3 then slst back into the first ch, 2dc, hdc,sc) repeat around, fo.
cut the yarn, leaving string for sewing.
Vine Tendril (Green)
ch 22, 2hdc into 3rd ch from hook, 2hdc into each ch along
cut the yarn, leaving string for sewing.
Sew the vine tendril onto the stem Weave in end.
Using the yarn on the end of the stem attach the stem to the top of the pumpkin. Weave in end.
